Bolt is a six-year old thoroughbred gelding who is quickly proving that there is much more to this special boy than his past as Bolt a racehorse.
Since beginning his retraining, Bolt has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He is intelligent, curious, incredibly willing, and – perhaps most importantly – he genuinely tries. He remembers what he learns and is beginning to understand that he no longer has to simply react or follow a pattern from his racing days. He is learning to think, make good choices and become a partner. He is making wonderful progress.
His personality: Bolt is naturally more of an introvert and seems to gain confidence through consistency, clarity and a patient handler. Once he understands what is being asked, he works hard to get it right. He is curious about new things rather than shutting down, and his confidence is growing every day.
Bolt recently went on his first short adventure outside the arena and handled it beautifully. He navigated a bridge, creek, mud, rocks, uneven ground, a steep downhill transition and a strange horse accompanying him. He even tolerated a surprise squirrel launching himself out of a bird feeder with total aplomb.
He is smart. Remembers what he is taught and willing to try. His perfect person would be patient, kind and understands that sometimes the best horses are the ones you get to build a partnership with.
